How Trauma, Unconscious Beliefs, and Diet Impact Chronic Illness — and What Helped Me Heal
For 8 years, I lived with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) — a chronic, painful bladder condition that felt impossible to heal. I was living on disability I was in so much pain. Like so many facing chronic illness, I bounced between doctors, diets, and treatments searching for relief. What finally changed everything wasn’t just physical — it was healing my nervous system, facing childhood trauma, and changing how I fueled my body and mind.
The Trauma-Chronic Illness Connection Most People Overlook
What I didn’t understand back then is that IC wasn’t just a “bladder problem” — it was my nervous system stuck in survival mode after years of childhood trauma. Growing up in an environment that constantly activated my fight-or-flight response rewired my brain and body to stay hyper-alert — eventually triggering physical breakdowns like IC.
We now know that chronic trauma, unconscious negative beliefs, and nervous system overactivation fuel many chronic illnesses — including conditions like:
✅ IC and pelvic pain
✅ IBS and digestive issues
✅ Fibromyalgia
✅ Autoimmune flare-ups
✅ Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
NAET and Ozone Therapy: The Unexpected Tools That Helped Me Heal
In my search for healing, I discovered NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) — a unique approach that combines energy work, acupuncture, and muscle testing. NAET didn’t just treat surface-level symptoms; it revealed how unprocessed emotions, trauma, and unconscious beliefs were triggering physical reactions in my body — even to food and environmental allergens. I was reacting to over 100 substances, foods and items in the environment causing pain.
Pairing NAET with medical ozone therapy reduced inflammation and supported my body’s cellular healing — but what shocked me most was how my mental and emotional health improved alongside my physical symptoms as I changed my diet and lifestyle. The calmer my nervous system became, the less pain I experienced.
Changing My Diet Changed My Mind — And Inspired a New Career Path
As part of my healing journey, I radically changed my diet:
❌ Eliminated refined sugar
❌ Cut processed inflammatory foods and drinks
✅ Focused on nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory whole foods
The results were incredible — not just physically, but mentally. I felt less anxious, less reactive, and more emotionally regulated. It became crystal clear that food wasn’t just fueling my body — it was directly impacting my mind, mood, and trauma responses.
For trauma survivors, sugar and processed foods can act like a drug — temporarily numbing emotional pain while fueling long-term inflammation and nervous system dysregulation.
This experience was so life-changing, I became a certified Primal Health Coach. Now, I help guide others through the powerful connection between diet, trauma recovery, and chronic illness healing — teaching clients how to support their nervous system through what they eat, how they live, and how they think.
EMDR, EFT Tapping, and Rewiring the Unconscious Mind
While shifting my physical health, I also dove deep into the emotional work. EMDR therapy helped me reprocess painful childhood memories and release the frozen emotional charge I didn’t even know I was still carrying.
I also used EFT Tapping — a simple yet powerful tool to calm my nervous system, shift unconscious beliefs, and feel safer in my own body. Both approaches helped me surface and heal deep-rooted beliefs like:
💭 “I’m unsafe”
💭 “I’m powerless”
💭 “I don’t deserve to heal”
Once I began clearing these patterns, my physical healing accelerated. My body stopped responding like it was under constant threat — because for the first time, it wasn’t.
The Truth About Chronic Illness: You Can’t Ignore the Mind-Body Connection
If you’re struggling with chronic illness — whether it’s IC, gut issues, fibromyalgia, or autoimmunity — it’s not all in your head. Your pain and symptoms are real. But how your brain and nervous system respond to trauma, stress, and unconscious beliefs directly impacts your body’s ability to heal.
Until I addressed the trauma driving my nervous system into overdrive, no diet or treatment plan could fully work. Healing happened when I combined:
✅ Nervous system regulation
✅ Trauma processing
✅ Mindset shifts
✅ Anti-inflammatory nutrition
✅ Energetic clearing (NAET and ozone)
Here’s What Helped Me Heal — and What Might Help You:
✔ NAET to clear physical and emotional sensitivities
✔ Ozone therapy for cellular repair
✔ A primal, whole foods diet designed to lower inflammation
✔ EMDR to heal stored trauma
✔ EFT tapping to calm daily stress and shift beliefs
✔ Rewiring unconscious patterns that kept me stuck in survival mode
The Bottom Line: Healing Chronic Illness Requires a Holistic Approach
Today, I’m pain-free — not because I found a magic pill, but because I addressed the emotional, physical, and unconscious roots of my illness.
Healing isn’t just possible — it’s your body’s natural state once you remove what’s keeping it stuck.
I share my full healing journey in my book, Healing Through The Pain: How I Recovered from Interstitial Cystitis. It’s a deeply personal story of how I unraveled the trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and unconscious beliefs driving my illness — and found relief through EMDR, EFT, NAET, diet, and nervous system healing.
